Patent Agent

A patent agent is a registered individual who is authorized by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (PTO) to prepare and prosecute patent applications for inventors. Unfortunately, many people believe that only a patent attorney can perform this service. This is not the case. A patent agent has a degree in technology (or is a state registered engineer), has passed the patent bar examination, and can provide all services pertaining to obtaining a patent. Also, a patent agent usually charges much less than a patent attorney for the same service.

Patent agents such as I, are very familiar with patent law, and keep continuously informed on recent court decisions which influence the preparation and prosecution of patent applications. And, patent agents and patent attorneys are treated with equal status by the PTO.
