Foreign FilingA U.S. patent only protects inventions from being made, sold, or used in the United States. If protection is desired in other countries, then a patent must be obtained in each individual country (a rather expensive process!). It is important to note that foreign patent applications must be filed before an invention is exposed to the public, or it is not possible to obtain a patent.
